Novara, a nice, relaxed town of around 110 000 inhabitants, is certainly worth a visit for its lovely old centre, rich in valuable artistic monuments and historical traces, such as the remains of Roman walls, the ancient Baptistery erected in the 5th century or the sumptuous Basilica di S. Gaudenzio with its incredible dome whose highest point is 121 metres high.
As Novara is surrounded by kilometers of lowland (mostly cultivated with rice!) you can see it towering over the landscape from a considerable distance! Novara also has a well preserved medieval broletto (town hall) and many rich and valuable old churches, in particular the huge cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta).
In Novara you will find art, history and culture, together with modern and more traditional shops and nice cafés.
